Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Diagnostic Radiology
Position Summary
The Department of Radiology at UTMB is seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our team in supporting high-demand diagnostic and interventional imaging services. This role plays a critical part in enhancing patient care, improving operational efficiency, and supporting radiologists in performing complex procedures across breast, pediatric, neuro, and musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging.
APPs in this role are responsible for patient preparation, procedure support, and post-procedure follow-up, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and patient experience. By taking ownership of these key tasks, APPs allow radiologists to focus on image interpretation and advanced procedures while optimizing departmental workflow.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support
- Assist radiologists during procedures in neuro, breast, pediatric, and MSK imaging.
- Support pediatric fluoroscopy procedures, including barium swallows.
- Prepare and educate patients before procedures, including reviewing medical history, confirming appointments, and verifying coagulation and other pre-procedure labs.
- Manage post-procedure follow-up and patient communication to ensure continuity of care.
- Coordinate patient flow, verify pre-procedure requirements, and manage logistics to maintain timely, safe, and efficient procedures.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Confirm patient appointments to reduce no-shows, cancellations, and delays.
- Facilitate communication among imaging modalities and coordinate with multidisciplinary care teams.
- Ensure adherence to departmental policies, clinical protocols, and safety standards.
- Identify opportunities to optimize workflow, maximize throughput, and efficiently utilize resources.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and radiology staff to ensure a seamless care experience.
Qualifications
- Graduate degree as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with active licensure in Texas.
- Prior experience in radiology, procedural support, or related clinical areas preferred.
- Excellent clinical judgment, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate complex workflows and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
