Animal Resources Supervisor, Animal Resource Center - Service Department
JOB DESCRIPTION
Provide team leadership and training to the veterinary technical and husbandry services in a humane, safe, and sanitary manner using appropriate equipment and established procedures for an Animal Bio Safety Level 3 or 4 high containment facility. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOJ clearance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Team lead for technical staff and coordinate teamwork load for maximum effectiveness.
- Provides and oversees daily husbandry care, including feeding, sanitation, and enrichment for multiple small and large species in a high-containment environment
- Ensure all federal, state, and local regulatory statutes, including facility SOPs, are followed regarding human-animal care and use.
- Assist in developing and providing training for any special techniques necessary to support the research program and mission.
- Performs veterinary technical services such as tissue sampling, blood draws, anesthesia, and injections on multiple laboratory animal species per protocol.
- Assists principal investigator(s) and/or veterinarian(s) in the preparation and conduct of technical/surgical procedure(s) in a high-containment environment.
- Maintains knowledge of biohazard and containment operations.
- Monitor overall facility operations, including all security, safety,and maintenance standards for a high containment facility.
- Maintains all animal and non-animal record sand documents, including all paper and digital forms.
- Possesses knowledge of current surgical techniques, instruments, and their functions.
- Provides general technical assistance to animal care and research staff.
- Maintains professional and collegial interpersonal skills with peers, subordinates, and superiors.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree in a related field or equivalent and four years of experience
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS
Required:
- LATG certified or must obtain within 12 months(1 year) from the hire date.
Preferred:
- CMAR certified
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT
- May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, and hazardous medications.
- High containment animal facility environment. Pregnancy may become a personnel safety factor in some laboratory animal science duties.
- Requires completion of appropriate vaccinations and EHS trainingprogram. Additional licenses, registrations, or certifications are preferred for the job.
- PPE required for BSL-2, ABSL-2,BSL-3, ABSL-3, BSL-3E,ABSL-4, and BSL-4 containmentlaboratories
- Biological safety cabinets
- Hematology and blood chemistry analyzers
- Must maintain containment laboratory access and DOJ clearance.
