REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences or related field or three (3) years’ experience in a healthcare environment and completion of 20-hour Council for Accreditation of Occupational Conservation (CAOHC) course.  Must be eligible for the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation Audiology Assistant license (TDLR).

Skills include basic ear anatomy and physiology, basic hearing aid knowledge, Basic knowledge of and ability to carry out standard office protocol for infection control and universal precautions and CPR.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assists Audiologists in performing basic hearing screenings, hearing aid servicing, and administrative duties related to clinic operations.   Performs these duties under the supervision of a TDLR licensed audiologist.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct and participate in hearing screening, screening otoscopy, tympanometry, basic pure-tone air conduction testing, otoacoustic emission and auditory brainstem response screening,
  • Functions as a test assistant in performing visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, and picture pointing speech recognition testing.
  • Reads and interprets basic screening results, screening otoscopy, as well as basic hearing aid function and specifications recognizing common problems and alerts the Audiologist
  • Prepares and sets up test environment, attaches surface electrodes, and prepares patients prior to procedures
  • Maintains and troubleshoots audiometric equipment including biologic and electroacoustic calibrations.
  • Maintains hearing instruments, including cleaning, replacing ear mold tubing, minor hearing instrument repairs, determining need for repair, and performing biologic and electroacoustic checks of hearing instruments
  • Checks in hearing aids for fitting or repair
  • Instructs patients regarding everyday use and care of the hearing aids, including proper insertion/removal of the aids, insertion/removal of the batteries, proper cleaning and maintenance regimen, adjusting the hearing aids, telephone usage, and various accessories and assistive listening devices.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical materials and records. Prepares paperwork for signature by the Audiologist.
  • Promotes teamwork and cooperation among co-workers, physicians, and management.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Salary Range:

 Commensurate with experience.
