MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
1-year experience in HIM or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- High school diploma and one year experience in HIM or equivalent experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position.
- Must have excellent customer service, written and communication skills
- Adhere to HIPAA
- Maintain professional manners with patients, staff and students
- Ability to multitask in a high-paced work environment
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician is responsible for the day-to-day tasks required to maintain the integrity of the health record. The role of the HIM Technician is integral to the overall function of the health system and patient care, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of available information for providers. The HIM Technician works under close supervision of the HIM Supervisor and/or HIM Manager.
- Maintains health records per current federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and regulations that govern medical records
- Serve as a resource to HIM department management and staff and providers, and external departments to resolve workflow issues
- Request and compile birth certificate data as required by the State of Texas for data entry into the Texas Electronic Vital Events Registration System (TxEVER)
- Provide education to newborn parent(s) on state vital statistics legalities and processes of birth registration
- Compile patient provided data and input all required information into the Texas Electronic Vital Events Registration system (TXEVER)
- Conduct face to face interviews in hospital units with parent(s) to obtain information needed to complete the birth registration of their newborn
- Complete an Acknowledgment of Paternity for unmarried parents to establish paternity for their newborn
- Protects the security of health records to ensure confidentiality
- Perform other clerical office duties such as organizing, filing, and answering of phones, emails, voicemails, and walk-ins
- Scans/Indexes all paper and faxed documents deemed part of the legal medical record into the electronic health records system to the appropriate patient account with accuracy, timeliness, and uniformity
- Weekend Shift: Thursday to Monday 8am – 4:30pm
- Holiday Rotation
- Face-paced environment with varying workload demands
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time- requires walking to and from units on different floor levels
