Director of Employee Wellbeing - Health System
Summary:
The Director of Employee Wellbeing - Health System will lead the strategic design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive wellness initiatives across the UTMB Healthcare enterprise. This role will focus on fostering a culture of well-being for employees. The Director will collaborate across departments to promote physical, mental, and emotional wellness, address burnout, enhance resilience, and support a positive, engaging work environment. The Director will be part of the team that supports the UTMB Nursing Excellence, Magnet Recognition journey.
Scope: Healthcare Services Enterprises
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute a long-term vision and strategic plan for the wellness program, ensuring alignment with the UTMB’s broader goals.
Partner and collaborate with leaders to create strategic initiatives, programs, and enterprise-wide resources.
Deliver training and workshops on wellness-related topics.
Promote awareness of available wellness resources through campaigns, seminars, and events.
In support of UTMB’s Nursing Excellence, Magnet Recognition journey, fosters and promotes advocacy for and acquisition of resources specific to nurses' well-being.

- Establish metrics and benchmarks to evaluate the effectiveness of wellness initiatives.
- Measure impact and progress toward goals and reports wellness data to leadership.
- Integrate efforts with other relevant departments, including, but not limited to, human resources, patient experience, and patient services, chief medical, and nursing officers.
- Collaborate with UTMB Director of Wellness – Academic Enterprise and University of Texas system counterparts for best practices and alignment.
- Accountable as a leadership team member for setting and advancing wellness initiatives, driving program innovation and impact, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
- Represent wellness program priorities in discussions with stakeholders to successfully influence and advance organizational objectives and policy initiatives.
- Effectively drive a high-performance culture.
- Ability to track progress against project plans, generate status updates, and communicate progress and issues to management.
- Coordinate resources to meet program goals.
- Maintain a continuing knowledge of scientific advances within the industry and academic community.
- Provide strong leadership skills when working with UTMB leaders.
- Develop relationships with external organizations.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of well-being models, drivers of burnout and well-being, and programmatic approaches.
- Knowledge of best practices for academic health institutions.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based wellness practices, occupational health, and mental health promotion.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with subordinates, peers, and leaders.
- Ability to utilize data to make strategic and operational recommendations and decisions.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Expertise in program development.
- Experience in coordinating complex initiatives across a highly matrixed organization.
- Sophisticated understanding of organizational culture and principles of culture change.
- Strong leadership abilities for project teams and management responsibilities, and an ability to bring together diverse skill sets to form a cohesive team.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Public Health, Health & Wellness, Healthcare Administration, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field plus five (5) years of progressive experience in wellness program development, employee health, or a related field.
- Related professional experience may be considered in lieu of the stated educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. This substitution applies only to the educational requirement and does not replace or count toward the separately stated minimum years of experience required for the position.
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare environments.
- Experience in leading cross-functional teams and driving culture change.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, etc.).
- Certification in wellness coaching, mental health first aid, or related wellness certifications.
