Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Apprenticeship Program
UTMB Health is accepting applications for our MRI Apprenticeship Program. This structured, full-time program provides paid classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training to prepare you for national certification and long-term career advancement in diagnostic imaging.
Program Overview
Participants selected for the MRI Apprenticeship Program will receive:
- Full-time employment and benefits as an MRI Apprentice
- Starting wage of $22.85/hour, with progressive increases during the 18-month training period
- In-person classroom instruction at Galveston College (2 days/week), with all tuition, books, and materials fully covered by UTMB
- On-the-job clinical training alongside experienced MRI Technologists (3 days/week)
- Rotational assignments across all UTMB campuses and shifts, including nights and weekends
- Eligibility to register for the ARMRIT certification exam upon successful completion of the program
Program Requirements
The program includes:
- Six-month probationary period
- Mandatory attendance at all Galveston College classes
- Additional shift responsibilities after certification (on-call, weekend, holiday, and disaster team assignments)
- Minimum two-year employment commitment in the UTMB Health Radiology Department upon completion
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Ability to meet the physical and scheduling demands of the program, including shift work, overnight rotations, and weekend/holiday assignments
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior healthcare experience preferred but not required
