UTMB Health is accepting applications for our MRI Apprenticeship Program. This structured, full-time program provides paid classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training to prepare you for national certification and long-term career advancement in diagnostic imaging.

 

Program Overview

Participants selected for the MRI Apprenticeship Program will receive:

  • Full-time employment and benefits as an MRI Apprentice
  • Starting wage of $22.85/hour, with progressive increases during the 18-month training period
  • In-person classroom instruction at Galveston College (2 days/week), with all tuition, books, and materials fully covered by UTMB
  • On-the-job clinical training alongside experienced MRI Technologists (3 days/week)
  • Rotational assignments across all UTMB campuses and shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Eligibility to register for the ARMRIT certification exam upon successful completion of the program

 

Program Requirements

The program includes:

  • Six-month probationary period
  • Mandatory attendance at all Galveston College classes
  • Additional shift responsibilities after certification (on-call, weekend, holiday, and disaster team assignments) 
  • Minimum two-year employment commitment in the UTMB Health Radiology Department upon completion

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Ability to meet the physical and scheduling demands of the program, including shift work, overnight rotations, and weekend/holiday assignments

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior healthcare experience preferred but not required
