Marketing, Media, Communications Specialist - Health System
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience in public/media relations, marketing, journalism, or related field.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the institutional Marketing, Communications and Business Development Office, this role supports the university’s strategic priorities by employing a broad range of communications, media relations and marketing skills to inform and engage internal and/or external audiences. This role plays a key part in advancing awareness of UTMB and its mission areas as well as driving clinical business to UTMB physicians, hospitals and other health care services. This role will work closely with key players in UTMB’s Health System to develop communications and collateral for distribution to internal and external audiences. Position will collaborate with internal teams as well as university programs and department stakeholders. Position includes direct communication with target audiences, as well as activities that facilitate communication by the President and other university executives, as well as programs and departments.
Job Duties:
Note: Specific job functions for an individual employee in this role depend on the concentration area of the position (e.g., Media Relations, Internal/Corporate Communications, Marketing, Digital Communications, Health System, Information Technology Services, etc.)
- Develops internal/external communications
- Writes ad copy and assists with design for advertisements – print, digital, direct mail, etc.
- Helps develop and execute the institution’s social media presence
- Writes general materials (patient/clinical content) which can be used for digital, print, etc.
- Collaborates with internal audiences to develop creative concepts and collateral materials
- Develops media pitches and addresses media inquiries, coordinates interviews, etc.
- Writes press releases and works to distribute them on internal/external-facing websites and to local/regional/national media
- Helps develop and execute integrated marketing plans for clinical services
- Works with representatives from Health System, Education, and Research missions as needed.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong interviewing and fact-finding skills
- Experience in the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications plans.
- Exhibits clear knowledge of marketing and communications tools, including digital, print, direct mail, new media, outdoor, television, and radio
- Experience tracking, analyzing, and reporting results of marketing/social media campaigns.
- Collaborative
- Ability to work effectively and directly with people at all levels
- Familiarity with developing health systems or patient-facing communications, preferred
- Ability to shoot and edit video, preferred
- Proficient in the use of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications, particularly InDesign and Photoshop
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications, most notably Word and PowerPoint.
Salary Range:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule:
On-site, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and as needed on occasion.
