JOB DESCRIPTION: 
This position will provide support to the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Space Medicine Operations Division by acting as the medical lead in Russia and providing medical expertise and knowledge to those supporting the ISS Program in Moscow Russia. The Moscow Physician will support local NASA personnel living and working for the ISS Program in Moscow, their dependents, and invited NASA guests. Additionally, this position will interface with ProfMedAssist, coordinate care with host nation resources, maintain and update the medical kits in the NASA vans and offices, and interact with the US Embassy medical staff in Moscow. The Moscow Physician will also provide support to the Star City Physician as required, support crewmembers’ family and friends at Soyuz Launches, as well coordinate contractor nurses support for all Soyuz launches and landings. his position will be expected to relocate to Moscow, Russia for a term up to 2 years.    

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide primary acute care for U.S. astronauts and their dependents, NASA personnel (civil servant and contractors) and their dependents on deployment in Moscow, and coordinate, when required, with appropriate medical facilities in Moscow for medical support.
  • Provide support to crew training operations in Star City, Russia as requested.
  • Provide support to U.S. crewmember families during pre-launch in Moscow, Russia, and Baikonur, Kazakhstan.
  • Coordinate nurse support for all Soyuz launch and landings. 
  •  Interface with employee corporate medical evacuation provider as required.
  • Provide medical expertise to the ISS Program representative (HFSP-R) living in Russia as required. 
  •  Exercise the Russian EMS/NCAP-SORK plan to ensure capabilities are present when required. 
  •  Evaluate and treat NASA related personnel in Moscow, Russia and as necessary from Star City, Russia.
  • Maintain relationships with the Moscow area medical clinics. Maintain relationships with the U.S. Embassy medical personnel in Moscow, Russia. 
  •  Perform medical clearance exams as required for close contacts for crew at launch.
  • Maintain NASA owned AED's at NASA facilities in Moscow.
  • Maintain an office with posted hours in Moscow and regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by UTMB, KBR and NASA.   
  •  Providing weekly reports to the KBR group manager. 
  •  Completing all assigned training (UTMB, KBR and NASA), and maintaining compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies, and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in medicine (D.O. or M.D.) with a clinical Board certification (e.g. Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, etc.) or Board eligibility required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Texas State Medical License within 6 months of hire date.
  • Experience with computer systems is important. 
  •  This position routinely requires interaction with the JSC Medical Operations Group, and Space Medicine Operations Division personnel, as well as other contractor, and foreign organizations, must be able to work with very little supervision, oversight, and/or assistance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in Russia is highly desired. A background in Aerospace Medicine is desired.
