Research Scientist III, Pathology Research
JOB DESCRIPTION:
An NIH-funded position is available for a highly motivated and dedicated Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Scientist to join our research team. We are seeking a candidate with strong training and hands-on experience in virology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, immunology, and/or animal models. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating a novel function of a viral protein in pathogenic arenavirus infection, using both in vitro systems and animal models. Some of the studies will be performed in high-containment facilities located in UTMB Galveston National Lab. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments; collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data; preparing scientific reports and manuscripts; presenting research findings at national and international conferences, and collaborating effectively with internal and external research teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate will be capable of working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- PH. D, M.D., D.O. or D.V.M. in related field and 3 years of related experience with Peer Reviewed Publications.
- Experience working with RNA viruses
- Proficient in cell culture and in vitro viral techniques (infections, virus titration, reverses genetics systems)
- Possess molecular and/or protein biology skills, including experience with RT-qPCR, western blotting, immunoprecipitations, DNA/RNA extractions, plasmid prep, molecular cloning, and transfections.
- Experience organizing and conducting complex experiments
- A motivated candidate with a strong interest in learning new techniques, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions. Must be organized, efficient, observant, and a collaborative team player.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with select agents in Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) or BSL-4
- Proficient in next-generation sequencing (NGS), including sample preparation, data processing, bioinformatics analysis, and results visualization for publication and presentation
- Proficient in antiviral activity testing including CC50 and EC50 determinations
- Experience with immunohistochemical staining, ELISA, confocal fluorescent microscopy
- Experience with structural and functional analysis
- Experience working with infectious disease rodent models.
- PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or a closely related field.
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
