Speech Pathologist I - Speech & Audiology - Otolaryngology
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field, Certification or eligible for Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, and Licensure or eligible for Speech Pathology License from the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Job Summary:
To provide professional skills in the comprehensive evaluation of patients with speech and language impairments, and to provide habilitative and rehabilitative treatment services.
Job Functions
- Administers various routine speech and language tests and hearing screenings.
- Evaluates and diagnoses communication and swallowing disorders by evaluating causes, administering tests, and assessing speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors.
- Provides patient evaluation and treatments, employing techniques consistent with age specific concerns for the following age groups: infant, adolescent, adult and geriatric as defined in position addendum.
- Develops and implements treatment plans for communication and swallowing disorders such as functional articulation, motor-speech, fluency, voice problems, delayed speech, and organic disorders, including but not limited to, cleft palates, cerebral palsy, aphasia, feeding disorders, and impaired hearing.
- Instructs patients with functional or organic speech disorders and their families in appropriate means of communication.
- Interprets test results and writes reports on diagnostic findings, therapy techniques utilized, and patient’s progress in treatment.
- Determines need for patient referral to specialists.
- Provides consultation and guidance services to patients, other professionals, and outside agencies regarding communication and swallowing disorders and associated treatment plans.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with experience.
