Veterinary Technician Supervisor, Animal Resource Center-Service Department (Galveston)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field and 3 years of experience. RVT,CVT or LVT Certified.
Preferred: • LAT or LATG certified

Job Description:
Will supervise veterinary technicians under the direction of the facility veterinarians and be responsible for quality assurance for all assigned facilities up to an Animal Biological Safety Level 3 (ABSL-3) environment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOJ clearance.
Job Duties:
- Assigns work orders to other veterinary technicians.
- Manages performance and monitors the timekeeping of other veterinary technical staff.
- Monitors and cares for pre-operative and post-operative veterinary patients.
- Performs anesthetic induction and maintenance monitoring and provides aseptic surgical support.
- Administers veterinary treatments in consultation with veterinarians.
- Conducts daily observational rounds and health checks.
- Collects samples and process diagnostic tests/imaging.
- Operates and maintains medical and surgical equipment.
- Maintains surgical and veterinary records.
- Manages rodent sentinel and quarantine programs.
- Organizes the flow of laboratory test requests and results, including animal imports/exports.
- Assesses and reports on quality assurance compliance issues.
- Organizes and performs environmental monitoring.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Provides technical support for researchers, maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Inventory/ordering of veterinary supplies as needed.
- Manages inventory and handling of controlled drugs.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrates strong people and oral and written communication skills to effectively deliver presentations and express interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
- Maintains knowledge of biohazard and containment operations

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT
- May be exposed to such occupational hazards as infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, and hazardous medications.
- High containment animal facility environment. Pregnancy may become a personnel safety factor in some laboratory animal science duties.
- Requires completion of appropriate vaccinations and EHS training program. Additional licenses, registrations, or certifications are preferred for the job.
- PPE required for BSL-2, ABSL-2, BSL-3, ABSL-3, BSL-3E containment laboratories
- Biological safety cabinets
- Hematology and blood chemistry analyzers
- Standard surgical equipment environment
- Must maintain containment laboratory access and DOJ clearance.
- Support equipment in a laboratory animal science multi-species facility, including diagnostic and surgical instruments.
- Utilizes standard office equipment
