About the Division of Nephrology

The Division of Nephrology at UTMB is a dynamic academic division dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, and research. The Division is expanding its clinical and research footprint to meet the growing needs of our patients and community.

With 16 faculty and 5 fellows, the Division provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of kidney diseases, including chronic kidney disease management, dialysis services, and kidney transplantation. Faculty practice across UTMB’s four campuses – Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton Danbury – and collaborate closely with colleagues in internal medicine, critical care, and surgery to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.

Our Nephrology Fellowship Program offers robust clinical and research training, emphasizing the development of future leaders in nephrology. In addition, the Division offers an Interventional Nephrology Fellowship Program, providing advanced training in dialysis access management, kidney biopsy, and interventional procedures that support comprehensive kidney care. Fellows benefit from a diverse clinical environment, cutting-edge procedural experience, and mentorship by experienced faculty dedicated to education and innovation.

The Division is also actively engaged in translational and clinical research, with growing efforts focused on improving outcomes for patients with chronic kidney disease and transplant recipients. Collaborations extend across departments and research institutes, creating opportunities for meaningful discovery and innovation.
