Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience in public/media relations, marketing, journalism or related field.

 

Job Summary:

Reporting to the institutional Marketing, Communications and Business Development Office, this role supports the university’s strategic priorities by employing a broad range of communications, media relations and marketing skills to inform and engage internal and/or external audiences. This role plays a key part in advancing awareness of UTMB and its mission areas as well as driving clinical business to UTMB physicians, hospitals and other health care services. Position will collaborate with internal teams as well as university programs and department stakeholders.  Position includes direct communication with target audiences, as well as activities that facilitate communication by the President and other university executives, as well as programs and departments.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 3 years of social media content creation and platform management experience
  •  Knowledge of health care industry trends and compliance requirements
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt messaging to various audiences, including academic, medical and general public.

 

Job Duties: 

The University of Texas Medical Branch is hiring a talented Marketing, Media, and Communications Specialist—Social Media to develop and implement effective social media strategies and content across multiple platforms for its institutional social media channels and for the President and his executive leadership team. This role involves creating content that showcases the university’s accomplishments and news, including research updates, educational achievements, patient care successes, and community initiatives, and coverage of the President’s engagements, both within UTMB and in the local and regional communities it serves. The successful candidate will possess a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the health care industry.  

  • Work directly with the UTMB Health marketing and communications team and the executive leadership team to create a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with the institution's goals.
  • Develop content calendars, track KPIs, and prepare performance reports.
  • Manage content for all social media channels, including but not limited to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Produce high-quality content that includes articles, blog posts, videos, and graphics to support the university’s initiatives
  • across its three primary mission areas: patient care, research, and education. In addition, develop content that showcases the President's thought leadership and highlights his engagements.
  • Monitor social media channels for industry trends.
  • Engage with followers and respond to comments and inquiries in a manner consistent with the university’s tone and policies.
  •  Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., research, patient care, academic services) to gather content and stories.
  • Ensure compliance with health care industry regulations and guidelines in all published material.
  • Perform related duties as required. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, content management systems (CMS), email marketing software, analytics platforms, SEO tools, and paid advertising platforms.
  • Experience in leveraging data analytics to optimize campaigns and improve user engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling written messages and effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Meltwater).
  • Proven track record in growing social media engagement and reach.
  •  Proficiency in project management, multitasking, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to produce a wide variety of social media content, including written posts, video, and photos.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, interpret metrics, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Knowledge of social media marketing tactics and analytics. 

 

Salary Range: 

Actual salary commensurate with experience. 

 

Work Schedule: 

Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and as needed on occasion.
